Seafarers’ Centres exist to provide a safe environment for seafarers of all nationalities and creeds in New Zealand ports. The Centres are run by organisations established to serve the needs of seafarers. Generally, charges are set at a level simply to recover costs.
The Centres generally provide services such as toll-calls, email/internet, and a welcoming environment. They have the necessary contacts to assist in any welfare difficulties; some offer a chaplaincy service.
